Find Out About The Shop

Welcome To The Village

We’re so proud of our village community shop. Plans for a shop started in early 2010 when a small group of villagers were determined to keep a shop open in the village, after the post office had closed. They called a village meeting in the March and were amazed at the number of people who came and the passion to keep a shop in the village, so the shop reopened in November that year, supported by financial contributions from over 200 shareholders.

The shop plays a key role in the community of Marchington and Marchington Woodlands by providing a local convenience store for villagers and visitors to buy essentials, cards, wine, tickets for local events, the parish magazine and fresh local produce.  Ten years on, we’re open seven days a week and it’s all run by volunteers and two part-time shop managers - Tracy Young and Penny Braithwaite.

What we sell and our services

We have gained a reputation for selling superb quality produce at great prices and we take great pride in offering a wide range of locally sourced goods as well as convenience grocery, newspapers, greeting cards, confectionery and drinks. We have fresh bread from local suppliers, pastries and cakes every day and we have twice-weekly delivery of quality, locally sourced meats from our local butchers JS Quality Meats.

If you’re after good quality wine, we’re specialists in wine. We have a great range which is managed by a dedicated Wine Committee! The team have the job of tasting lots of wine to ensure only the best wines come into the shop and they barter to get the best prices for us. If you’d like to join in on some tasting opportunities, the team host monthly wine tasting sessions in the shop and you may like to join the committee.  Pop into the shop to find out the latest special offers and collect your loyalty card.

We offer also a 364-day a year newspaper delivery service and we also take parcels for people who are out all day. We also offer a twice weekly dry cleaning and repair service and cash back.

If there is something we don’t have in store and that you would like us to stock – it might be your favourite magazine or chocolate bar, please just let us know and we’ll see if we can stock it for you.

Volunteer with us

We rely on volunteers to keep the shop open, so we’re are always looking for people to join our volunteer team.  Volunteering can be on a regular basis or ad hock and we’re often after help behind the till, stocking the shelves, finance, stock control and marketing. If you feel you can add to the team in any way we’d be delighted to hear from you. It’s probably the best way to get to know people in the village and find out what’s happening! Click HERE for all the details.

Become a shareholder

We offer our supporters the option of purchasing shares in the community business.  Each share costs £20 and they are limited to one share per person. Households can have more than one share (one per person) and you don’t need to live in the village to buy a share and show your support! There are many shareholder benefits including voting at shop meetings and helping us with much needed funds to improve the shop. Click HERE for all the details.

We always have offers and new products, stay up to date by joining our e-newsletter.
